This hybrid Policy Dialogue will mark the launch of a joint HIAS Europe and Right to Protection (R2P) report on the protection risks faced by non-Ukrainian asylum seekers and refugees in the EU following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Against the backdrop of the Temporary Protection Directive’s ongoing implementation, insufficient knowledge of the challenges faced by non-Ukrainians seeking refuge has kept their protection needs out of the spotlight and made targeted support more difficult.
Many questions remain about this group’s ability to move freely within the EU, access their rights, and benefit from social services in member states. These factors also impinge on their prospects of (long-term) protection and integration. With an eye to the future, this event will bring together EU representatives, civil society and migration experts to discuss the immediate and long-lasting obstacles faced by non-Ukrainian asylum seekers and refugees displaced from Ukraine, and how to overcome them.
The event will be followed by a reception. Please see the full programme here.
