Russia holds several thousand Ukrainian prisoners and deported children from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia declares that an international special tribunal should be organized regarding Putin’s aggressive crimes.
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, Margus Tsakhkna, in an exclusive interview with 24 Сanal, emphasized that Russia commits crimes against humanity when it exploits Ukrainian prisoners and kidnaps children.
For Estonia, the issue of returning children is one of the priorities
“We are talking about 20,000 deported children who are in camps and they are also being used against Ukraine, brainwashing them and their mentality. These are crimes against humanity. These are war crimes and crimes of aggression. Therefore, we must fight for all these in “People and children have returned to their homes,” he said.
According to the Estonian minister, it is important to establish justice. Therefore, he emphasizes that an international special tribunal should be organized regarding Putin’s aggressive crimes.
So, we have a lot of work in the future, but we cannot start negotiations with Russia in the sense of making any deals, because Putin is not interested in making deals. He is only interested in how to destroy Ukraine, how to destroy the Ukrainian nation, and how to destroy Western democracies. That’s something we can’t agree on
Tsakhna said.
During the peace summit in Malta, Canada offered to create an international coalition to facilitate the return of Ukrainian children. Tsahkna confirmed that one of the priorities for Estonia is children’s issues.
“We also initiated a parallel high-level event at the UN General Assembly together with Ukraine, as well as the US and Belgian governments, to say that this is a real problem. We can work together using any formats and organizations, and of course Estonia will join to this initiative,” he summarized.
